What are our default nameservers?

Quick answer: Default nameservers are the DNS server hostnames a provider supplies for domains that use its DNS service. The correct values depend on your account and the provider’s current configuration, so obtain them from your client area or welcome email rather than copying an old article.

If using another DNS provider, you may not need to change nameservers at all. Read the DNS migration checklist before moving them.

A nameserver translates domain names into IP addresses, making it easier to access websites. As part of the Domain Name System (DNS), it functions like an internet address book, directing traffic when a domain is entered. Nameservers also determine which DNS provider manages a domain’s settings. By using our defaults, we manage those settings and can automatically link your domain to your hosting.

Important: confirm nameservers for your account

The nameservers shown above are historical account guidance and may not be appropriate for every hosting service or domain. Always confirm the nameservers in your current Hex Hosting welcome email, control panel or with support before changing them at the registrar. If your email uses a separate provider, record all existing MX, SPF, DKIM and other DNS entries first so they can be retained when you change DNS providers.

If only the website is moving, it may be possible to update the relevant DNS records without switching the domain’s nameservers. Read the pre-migration DNS checklist before making any changes.

Checking the correct nameservers

Different hosting products and accounts can use different nameservers. Confirm the current values in your welcome email or hosting control panel before changing your registrar settings. Copy the existing DNS records, especially email MX and authentication TXT records, if the authoritative DNS provider will change.

If only the website is moving, a targeted record change may be preferable to replacing the entire nameserver delegation. Read the DNS checklist first.
